In this post I plan to list a series of prayers and reflections as I seek God's face, meditate and consider the situation in Ukraine. More will appear with time. So I encourage you to return again and again and add your prayers to mine in the comments section.
Where to start?
What comes to mind first are the words from Ephesians 6 where it says, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
When I look at the evil men like Putin who are responsible for the atrocities taking place in Ukraine, I can only imagine that there are demonic forces are at work influencing the minds of these people.
There never seems to be a shortage of those who submit themselves to be tools of the evil one. Whether such a choice is voluntary or the consequence of listening to the lies of the devil is, I suppose is up to debate, but I will continue to pray that those who have been deceived by the evil one would repent and come to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Strength and Courage
One of the more common phrases in the Bible is "Fear not, be strong and courageous!" So my prayer for the Ukrainian people is that they would not give into fear in the face of such evil. The past 8 years has prepared the Ukrainian people for this war. They have raised and army and they have learned how to resist the evil empire of Russia in all its many guises. So I have been praying that they would rise up and be strong and courageous. I have been praying that they not fear the onslaught of evil that has arraid itself against them. I have been praying that they not lose hope but find new ways to resist the evil one, taking up the armor of God and employing every tool that God's wisdom would provide to overcome Putin's seemingly overwhelming forces.
Let Truth Reign
Let Fear and Dread fall upon Ukraine's enemy
The Scripture that comes to mind is Proverbs 28:1 "The wicked flee when n one pursues, but the righteous are a bold as a lion."
I have been praying that same and fear would fall on the Ukraine's invaders. I pray that they would come to the realization that the they are fighting and illegal and unrighteous war against their neighbors and that that realization would cause them to lay down their weapons and turn themselves over the the Ukrainian defenders. I know that this is already happening, I pray that this would continue to happen and that more and more Russian soldiers would refuse to kill the Ukrainian people. their neighbors. In fact I pray that they would turn against their masters and rend them.
